Performance of HPV testing as a primary screening test in China

A pooled analysis of primary HPV testing in over 30,000 women from 17 studies across China, concludes that HPV testing is significantly more sensitivie for the detection of CIN3 or worse than either cytology or visual inspection with acetic acid. By adopting a cutoff point for HPV positivity of 10pg/ml for women under the age of 35, instead of the manufacturer's recommendation of 1-2pg/ml, specificity was increased and a high sensitivity was maintained.
