Invitation for Expressions of Interest - Cytopathology

Are you interested in becoming a member of an editorial team for a new biomedical scientist/cytotechnologist section in Cytopathology – the official journal of the BAC

The aim of Cytopathology is to publish articles relating to those aspects of cytology which will increase our knowledge and understanding of the aetiology, diagnosis and management of human disease.

The journal contains original articles and critical reviews on all aspects of clinical cytology, both gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytology, fine needle aspiration and screening strategy, and has a wide global readership.

A new Editor-in-Chief commenced in January 2021, who will work with the editorial team and advisory board to ensure that the journal goes from strength to strength and increases its impact factor.

A new section of Cytopathology is currently being planned – dedicated to teaching and education for all staff working in cytology laboratories worldwide – to be run by a team of Biomedical Scientists / Cytotechnologists, at whom the new section will be primarily aimed. Content covering both cervical and diagnostic (non-gynaecological) cytopathology will be featured. There will be a particular focus on sharing education and best practice across the continent of Europe.

The BAC are therefore asking for expressions of interest from interested Biomedical Scientists / Cytotechnologists who might wish to be a member of the editorial team for the new section. The deadline for expressions of interest is 9th April 2021.

There is no formal job description, person specification or application form; you just need to be a motivated cytologist with a passion for cytopathology, with a willingness to be part of the team to invite and review submitted contributions, selecting articles suitable for publication in the new section (previously referred to as the ‘InCyt’ section).

There is no requirement for previous similar experience as full guidance will be given with support from the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board. One of the members of the team will have the status of Associate Editor and will be a member of the Editorial Board.

If you are interested in being part of the new editorial team for this exciting new section, please send a brief statement to the BAC office,, marked for the attention of Alison Cropper, President of the BAC, stating your:

  • experience in cytology
  • experience (if any) in writing or publishing articles
  • current role and position, including whether involved in cervical or diagnostic cytopathology or both
  • ideas for making the new section a valuable “must-read” resource

If you have any questions prior to submission of your expression of interest please send:
