A look into the February 2016 Cytopathology

The BAC is pleased that Cytopathology invited the publication of the BAC recommended code of practice for cervical cytology laboratories 2015 in February’s issue. The code is introduced in an Editorial by L.M. Smart, who chaired the code’s working party. Continuing the theme of quality in cervical cytology, M. Confortini et al present a paper on their practice of daily peer review of abnormal cervical smears as a method of internal quality control.

There are also articles on WT1 immunoenzyme staining in Surepath urine cytology, the potential of liquid-based cytology in lymph node cytology and Y.-H. Yu et al demonstrate that axillary fine needle aspiration cytology is a sensitive and highly specific technique for the detection of axillary lymph node metastasis.

This issue also includes a case report on marginal zone lymphoma diagnosed on pleural effusion cytology and, in the correspondence section, the debate around HPV primary screening is continued in a letter by R. M. Austin. Being the first issue of the year, February’s Cytopathology is free to download.
