Overview: This presentation will discuss the role of digitization and artificial intelligence [AI], combined with single cell omic technology in driving significant evolution and revolution in Gynae cytopathology.

About Professor O'Leary

John O’Leary MD, DSc, PhD (Oxon), MSc, MA (Oxon), MA (Dub), FRCPath, FFPathRCPI, FRCPI, FTCD is Chair of Pathology at Trinity College Dublin and Consultant Pathologist and Molecular Pathologist at St. James’s Hospital Dublin. He established the National Cervical Screening Laboratory (NCSL) in Dublin: a world first in cancer screening.

He has over 800 publications, with >350 peer reviewed papers and is seated editor on 3 books. His group’s h-index is in excess of 110.

His group (consisting of 44 scientists), has raised in excess of 330 million euros in grant income and have published in top-ranked journals including: Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Immunology, Nature Communications, Nature Protocols, PNAS, The Lancet, BMJ, PLoS Computational Biology, Cancer Research etc.

He has graduated 56 PhD, 11 MD and 11MSc students. His group has graduated >80 PhD students and >138 MSc students.

The group hosts the CERVIVA consortium, DISCOVARY consortium and the Prostate Cancer Research Consortium (PCRC). The group holds 9 patents and 34 of their discoveries are now used in the theranostic space. The group works with 26 top biomedical and pharmaceutical companies.

The following areas are the focus of the Molecular Pathology Research Group (MPRG) at Trinity College Dublin (TCD): cervical pre-cancer and cancer, ovarian, prostate and head and neck cancer, cancer metastasis, cancer genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics, multi-omic technology, single cell analysis, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, synthetic data and digital data avitars.

John O’Leary was named as one of the top 100 Health Professionals in Ireland in 2023. He is the recipient of multiple national and international awards.
