BAC statement - Press release describing a cervical screening incident in Northern Ireland
The BAC notes the press release and news reports describing a cervical screening incident in Northern Ireland today. The BAC would first wish to express its concern for those women directly affected and our hope that any reviews and rescreens are completed as quickly and safely as possible. The BAC as an organisation and its members individually have been involved in the development of UK quality standards in cervical screening from the outset and continue to provide training within laboratories and to larger groups in order to meet or exceed these standards.
The BAC recognises that this will also be an anxious time for those still working within the cervical screening services in all the UK nations but knows that the dedication, professionalism and skills of all grades of laboratory and medical staff ensures that incidents such as these are thankfully rare. The BAC will work with all those within the UK cervical screening programmes to promote and maintain the high standards which are the basis for the success of these important health initiatives.
